All The Blocks Are Together/Weekend Away

What  busy time we have had of late. To start with I managed to stitch all my star blocks and flower panels together and I have to say I am thrilled with the result.

This was done prior to us heading away last weekend which was my goal. My next task is to finish putting the borders on it, make the backing for it, add the wadding and put it all together.

Our weekend away last week was an Army Reunion for Pete at the Gold Coast. We travelled down last Friday and got ourselves settled into our accommodation - The Royal Palms at Palm Beach. It was a lovely unit we had, with views straight onto the beach. It was really hard to take I have to tell you, but someone had to do it.

There was about 14 (?) guys that attended and 4 of us wives, but this next photo is those that came in on the Friday.

On Saturday, Pete hired a mini bus and organised a visit to Kokoda Barracks at Canungra where we saw the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the AAATV Memorial (Training Corp) and the Army Intelligence Museum. We had a guide to travel with us around the base and he was extremely  interesting.

There are two of these 'groves' with a tree planted for every soldier who died in Vietnam, with their name under it, and when family come to visit, they sometimes leave a small Australian flag. It is a very peaceful area and is just like a jungle.

This is the memorial for the AAATV Training Team - they were in Vietnam prior to the Australian Servicemen being sent over.

All of it was interesting, we then had a quick lunch in Canungra itself before getting back to The Royal Palms and get ready to head to the Currumbin RSL Club for an official 'Meet & Greet' as well as dinner.

Sunday was the main day of the Reunion with the men remembering their mates that didn't make it home or who have since passed away. A small memorial service was held at the lovely Memorial at the RSL Club.

After a lunch and meeting, most of us adjourned back to The Royal Palms to get ready for dinner back at the RSL Club.

A wonderful time was had by all and our farewells were made on Monday morning at the Dune Café right on the edge of Palm Beach.

Time to head home and back to the general run of the mill things you do around the home. It is also time to get back into some stitching, so 'til next time, remember ........
