In My Sewing Room

This last weekend - Australia Day weekend - has been relatively quite except for the beach party down at our local park where a wonderful time was had by all. (See previous post)

Pete mentioned last week when he came home from lawn bowls that one couple was not doing so good, the wife (thankfully for the moment) is in remission for cancer, and the husband is top of the list for a kidney transplant. Everyone of course wishes them well. But I had come across a design that I could put on one of my kindness bears that I felt would (hopefully) put a smile on their faces for maybe a minute or two. I also found an appropriate saying to go with him. Pete is delivering the little bear this afternoon. I hope they like him and he helps them in the coming weeks/months.

I have also managed to make a pair of placemats and a notebook cover for some friends coming out to visit from the UK at the end of April. Goodness me, I am well ahead of myself on that project!

For now though, I think that is all I am going to get made for this month, so ......

Great Day Out

Yesterday (26 Jan.) was Australia Day, and where we live the local Council put on a Beach Party for locals and visitors alike. The weather was kind, although a little hot, but overall the atmosphere down at our local park was great.

To start with, my little furry friend decided to have an 'exclusive' party for just one earlier in the day as he suffers a bit with the heat considering he is covered in fur - you get my drift? So off we went down to our closest beach and he basked away a couple of hours before the crowds arrived.

Crosby T. Bear (T for Teddy of course) would like you to know that Pete very kindly made him this special beach chair. As you can see, he has his drink, with a straw - can't slop it and get the fur wet now can we? He also had a pink lamington - he is rather partial to chocolate ones, but they were not ready at the bakery when we called in to get one for him to celebrate Australia Day.

Later in the day, Pete went off to lend a hand with cooking sausage sandwiches to sell for the local Vietnam Veterans group - actually managed to sell out not long before it was time to pack up.

Oops, forgot to get a photo of the BBQ trailer that the Vets have - next time!

There was plenty of food vans around along with some reasonably good entertainment in the afternoon and into the evening.

I wandered down around 4pm, mind you it was still quite hot, but with cold bottled water readily available, all was good. The foreshore was well and truly patronised and it looked like people were thoroughly enjoying themselves.

As dark, ness started to fall, people headed to the food stalls for some dinner before finding a good position along the waterfront ready to watch the fireworks that would bring the day to a close.

As we walked home in the cool of the evening, although still very muggy with the humidity, we both agreed that a good day was had by all.

For now though, 'til next time,

Busy Month .....

Goodness me, it seems I may have been too busy to even post on my blog.

First off, after new tablets from the doctor - I felt so much better that I even ....... wait for it:
I even got in and started the 'big clean-up' of my craft room. Yes, I am beside myself and feel pretty good too. You can actually see the floor AND the top of my sewing table! It has meant a new lease of life for this room and I feel as if I want to get in and enjoy creating some more items.

After this momentous time - of course it took me a few days to recover, I set to and created another little bear, and beginning to create another little guy, more about him later. I also went off to go buy some (more) fabric to finally get around to making the bed runner for our bed - a project I have been wanting to do for ages and ages. I have already pre-shrunk it all and ready to start cutting out this weekend. Watch this space.

Below is the fabric I purchased laying on our bed showing the feature wall behind the bed - hopefully, it will all tie in when it is finished.

The weather has not done us any favours of late with incredible temperatures along with stifling humidity and to top it off last week, bushfires (suspected of being deliberately lit).

For now though I am going to go sit with the air conditioning on and start hand-stitching the other little bear I have going. However do not forget to .......
