February - Where Has It Gone?

Oh my goodness, I am beginning to think I have hibernated for the month of February, yet I know that somehow (?) I have managed to make a quilt/comforter.

This particular comforter started back in 2016 when I made my friend Karen (from Karen's Korner) a comforter to mark our 40 years of friendship, and I had a long strip of the polar fleece left over.

In each of the white pieces of fabric I had stitched a 'memory' that we had shared together. As you can guess I called the comforter "Down Memory Lane".

We that extra piece of fleece has sat in my cupboard for these last 5 years until I came up with the idea of cutting a bit off one end, cutting it in half and joining it to the side of said main piece. Sound confusing? Well, it did take me a bit of time to work out how I could use it to it's maximum potential. I also had some of the backing/border fabric left too. With this fabric, I purchased a couple of matching rose fabrics just the right shade to begin this new project will call it 'My Country Cottage Rose Garden'.

After numerous ideas of how I was going to make this up I finally decided on a simple block type design. Then came the measuring to get every right, and off I went cutting it out.

Took it along to my sewing group one day with my machine, and was staggered that I managed to get the top done in one day!

Next  and adding a border begin to pin it all together. The actual quilting was fairly easy as I did 'sstitch in the ditch'. This was followed by adding the binding along with my labels. Yes, that is plural - you see I always add my quilt label to the back of my quilts, but I also add a small printed label inside the binding. A security thing I guess, as anyone can take off the outside label, but would not know of the inside one. Therefore, if the quilt is stolen, and let's face it, it has happened to others over time, I can 'prove' that this quilt is mine.

Now came the task of hand-stitching the binding down, again I took it to my sewing group and managed to get it done in one day.

Really, really happy with it, and now I have a nice comforter to take with us when next we 'hit the road'. Yes, well ..... that's another story in these times of lockdown/border closures etc. isn't it?

Anyway, that is my project/finish for this month. Will now go and get into one I have begun for hubby to put all his cloth badges he has been collecting from our travels - though I think I may need to do two for him, there are so many badges with more to come when we can start travelling again.

For now though, take care ....

'Til next time,

June
