A Very Quick Last Minute Project

 Think I have mentioned recently that we are gearing up to take to the road again on another adventure, and with this in mind, I decided to make myself a new sunhat to take with us.

So scratching around, I came across the following fabrics to create a reversible, fold-upable hat.

Hmm ..... I had begun to cut this out when I realised that I had not taken a photo of the fabrics. The pattern I chose to use was an Oliver + S pattern that I purchased online. I  might add here that I used a child's size 8 yrs size as I have a rather small head. 

Here is the floral side, and following is the plain side.

Please excuse my 'model', but my lamp was the only thing I had that seemed to 'fit'!

To the crown piece I added another two extended crown pieces to create a folding pocket.

Now to show you how this works:

To begin, turn hat on its crown and fold in two opposite sides.

Now fold in the other two sides into the middle.

It is now that you turn the two extra crown pieces back over the whole of the hat, and there you have it, all neat and ready to throw into your bag.

 

Hope this makes sense. This extra feature (folding it up) is not part of the original pattern. I had previously had a sun hat with this feature and have not been able to find it for over a year or so, and hence why I chose to make one to take with us.

Well, with this post, it will be the last sewing/stitching post for quite a while. Pete & I will be hooking up our caravan and hitting the road for our next adventure. I shall be making posts whilst 'on the road', and I hope you will continue to drop by and enjoy an armchair journey around the country - or should I say, we will travel as far as 'the powers that be' and Covid allow us to go.
