Onto Broome

Not sure if we can better what we have seen in the last couple of days, but we still have a few treats up our sleeve, in particular those coming up once we reach Broome.

On the way into Broome, which I have to say was another long straight line of road, we stopped off for our morning tea at the Roebuck Plains Roadhouse along with topping up with fuel. Muffins were given 'the flick' on this occasion and I have to confess I indulged in a tub of Tim Tam Cheesecake - oh yumm! This is one time where you really need to have a mindset of 'forget the waistline .... just for a little while.

Next stop Broome, and instead of going into a caravan park like we usually do, we had been told about these 'camping sheds' in the industrial area of Broome at half  the price of the caravan sites and when we were staying 4 nights, that soon mounts up.

Quite something to see our 2 vans being moved into a big industrial shed by a bobcat.

Sorry it's a little bit dark, but as you can see plenty of room for 4 vans in each shed. There is a bathroom which includes a washing machine as well.

Now time to go exploring Broome. First off it was a visit to the Visitors Info Centre where we booked a tour of a pearling farm in a couple of days time. Then off for a wander around Chinatown. Sadly for us, we did not get a real good look as there was a lot of fencing etc up where upgrading of the area was being done, and it will look great once it is all finished.

This sculpture is being erected at the start of Chinatown and is called 'Fusion'. It is shaped like the hull of a pearl lugger and is made of jarrah timber and pearl shell. It's message is to 'wish you good fortune and balance in this rocky world'. I also checked out the numerous pearl shops, and oh my goodness, there were some absolutely beautiful pearls. I certainly was not in the market for any of those, but I did buy myself a lovely pair of cultured pearl earrings at a much more reasonable price.

Later in the afternoon we headed down to the Town Common where we checked out the markets

before finding a seat  with some other lovely people we have met along the way to view the phenomenon of the 'Stairway to the Moon. This is the main reason for the timing in our coming to Broome. Absolutely spectacular.

Now here comes the light show ....

As you can see, the full moon shines across the ripples of the flats (at low tide) to create the illusion of stairs going up to the moon.

Something else ticked off our bucket list.

'Til next time,

June

  1. I've never heard of camping sheds before, but with a bathroom and washing machine available and cheaper than a campsite it seems a real bargain. So nice to see and do things on your bucket list.
